Taylor Smith is dedicated to advocating for individuals and families in high-stakes litigation. A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2017, Taylor began his career practicing criminal defense at the Law Offices of the Public Defender. Shortly thereafter, he was recruited to work with a civil rights defense firm, where he represented police and teachers. While defending governmental entities, he gained valuable insight into how corporations, insurers, and government agencies build their cases. He now uses that experience to represent plaintiffs, focusing his practice on civil rights, wrongful death, and complex injury cases.
Taylor has become an advocate in New Mexico for victims of police misconduct, governmental negligence, and systemic failures. His work has included representing families in wrongful death lawsuits arising from fatal police shootings, SWAT raids, and high-speed chases. These high-profile cases have been covered by outlets including The New York Times, NBC News, Source NM, KRQE, KOB, and the Albuquerque Journal.
Recognized among Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch for Civil Rights Advocacy, Taylor combines sharp courtroom skills with a client-focused approach. He is committed to ensuring that those harmed by powerful institutions have a strong voice in the legal system. Whether confronting law enforcement agencies, municipalities, or large insurers, Taylor brings persistence, strategic insight, and compassion to every case.
Taylor’s practice continues to afford all victims of civil rights violations a voice in our courts.
